P.S. We are a Small Business

A recent Gallup poll discovered that 95 % of Republicans and 94% of Democrats find small businesses to be viewed positively.

That’s not surprising when you take into account that small businesses and their owners are the backbone of the US economy, making up 99% of all employers!

Impressive, right?! It’s no wonder you should choose a small business when looking for a company to do business with…say… bookkeeping perhaps? Oh and guess what, we are a small business, and also do bookkeeping. Win win!

But in all seriousness, let’s take a look at 10 reasons why small business owners are awesome!

1.       Small business owners wear multiple hats.

If you are a small business owner, at some point you have not only been the owner, you have also been the marketer, salesperson, customer service team, graphic designer etc.. Google is your best friend, and you have taught yourself how to be a pro regarding multiple topics. Small business owners can multi-task with the best of them, and juggling hats is no problem.

2.       Small business owners are not faint of heart.

Getting a small business up and running is certainly not a smooth ride. It’s packed full of struggles and disappointments and lots of learning experiences. In fact, Bloomberg finds that 8 out of 10 entrepreneurs fail within the first 18 months, but if you are a small business owner, those odds don’t stop you! You are too busy digging in your heels and doing what it takes for your business to succeed! Small business owners know that taking risks are worth it, when the possible pay off could be huge.

3.       Small business owners can live lean.

Finding creative ways to cut costs without sacrificing the customer experience is your MO as a small business owner! You have tight lending restrictions, and have self-financed, you take the bootstrapping route, and you are ok with living lean.

4.       Small businesses have already learned what big businesses are still trying to learn.

Small businesses have learned that a personal touch, a kind conversation and genuine interest in a client’s life are things that cannot be replaced with high dollar marketing or expensive ad placement. Treating clients like friends is where business truly comes from, and small businesses know this by heart.

5.       Small businesses are creative.

Without a marketing team, or large budget, small businesses get creative when it comes to their marketing efforts, and what they lack in budget, they make up for in passion.

6.       Small businesses and their owners inspire us.

What could possibly be more American than the story of a lean living, small business owner who takes risks to see their dreams revealed? It’s a story that never gets old, and one that instills inspiration in all of us to actually believe that our crazy ideas ARE possible.

7.       Small business owners build and create community.

Chances are, when you think of your favorite place to eat, your favorite place to buy a cute gift, or your favorite place to hang with your friends, you are thinking of a small business. Small businesses contain the heart of every city. Small businesses pop up between the big buildings, providing uniqueness and quirkiness. We may be a bookkeeping firm, and not a delightful boutique, but we do have heart! You won’t be disappointed with our small business and the uniqueness we bring to the table.

8.       Small businesses get stuff done.

Small businesses aren’t just important, they are vital to our country’s success. According to the Small Business Association, small businesses create more than 50% of America’s non-farm GDP. They also make up 97% of exporters, which means they make up 29% of all export values. We get stuff done! ;)

9.       Your next job could be at a small business.

Going along with number 8, small businesses are creating NEW jobs! 15 million jobs between 1993 and 2009 to be exact! So, if you are looking for a job, you should hope you could be so lucky as to get one with a hard working small business!

10.   Small businesses work hard for YOU!

Small business have worked hard to build their company from the ground up, and they understand that YOU are what keeps them afloat. You can rest assured, knowing that your favorite small business knows that they couldn’t do ANYTHING without you, and they will work hard for you and make sure you never lack for excellent service.
