As explained by a Bookkeeper
Now, this may seem a little biased because, well, I am bookkeeper who works at a bookkeeping firm, but seriously, you really do need a bookkeeper! You probably think you can do it yourself to save money, or you have possibly even considered not doing bookkeeping at all because “it can’t be that big of a deal”. WRONG! Any small (or any size!) business needs to stay on top of their bookkeeping, for legal reasons, and for peace of mind for you and your clients. Here are just 5 reasons, out of a million, why you actually really do need a bookkeeper.
1. You don’t like doing it, oh and also, you are bad at it.
That might sound harsh. But let’s face the facts! If you are no good at something, you need to admit it, accept it, and stop struggling with a task that would be best left to someone else. I don’t mean pawn off the bookkeeping on someone else you doesn’t like it just as much as you, I mean give the right task to the right person. That way everyone is happy! Also, bookkeeping isn’t your Accountant’s job either, so don’t make the mistake of trying to use your accountant for your bookkeeping. Hire an actual bookkeeper!
2. You will receive up to date financial management reports.
You shouldn’t be running your business blind! So many people are operating their businesses, but they do not know if they are functioning at a profit or a loss. They push aside the day to day accounting, and just receive their figures annually, prepared by their accountant, at which point, it’s too late to many any changes to save their business. Your bookkeeper can give you up to date figures monthly, or however often you prefer, and trust me, this information is critical for the success of your business.
3. Bookkeepers do the bookkeeping.
This goes along with the first point, but is also just referring to life in general. You go to a nail salon to get your nails done, a dentist for a cavity etc. It’s all about the right person for the right job. So, if you need your books done, shouldn’t you hire a bookkeeper? It’s what they do, they are cheaper than you think, and it’s guaranteed they are much faster at doing your books than you are! Bookkeepers know what they are doing and they enjoy it! If you hire the right person, you will be free with more time to do what you do best... manage your business!
4. You can’t do everything!
In building a business, you need to make sure that systems are put into place that will carry the weight of making sure processes are followed. You can’t do everything! You need to build a good team of people around you to execute your business plan and systems you put in place. A bookkeeper is a great person to have on board your team!! They can provide you with cashflow forecasts, help you to assess your costings, tell you if you are on budget and help you to see where you are going. Grow your team – and start with the bookkeeper! It’s always a good idea to outsource your bookkeeping!
5. Bookkeepers offer more than “just bookkeeping”.
It’s a common misconception that bookkeepers simply record the receipts and payments. But that is far from the truth! Bookkeepers can be invaluable to your business because of the essential role that they fill. Bookkeepers can also run the payroll, complete 1099s, file your taxes, make sure your business licenses are up to date and all your state filings are complete. It’s really amazing the wealth of knowledge bookkeepers have, and they ways they can help you and your business are endless!
